Thank you ladyhawthorne. I adore deer, especially white ones.
There's a fascinating article about white harts, which includes an image similar to the one you have above, here:http://islesproject.com/2008/07/23/mythical-white-hart-and-stag/On that image, the antlers can be seen more clearly. That article also includes a newpaper report about sightings of real ones. And a catalogue of examples of the occurence of white deer in myths.
Robur d'Amour - thank you so much for the additional imagery and link!!! I've a local park called "White Deer Park" that is basically a shrine to a tiny white deer that was struck by a car. Sadly, it is now taxidermied and on exhibit but I guess it is for educational purposes.
certainly white deer are wanderers from the Underworld. beautiful painting that i've never seen before.
Whaa!! This is absolutely beautiful!! I've downloaded it if you don't mind :D your blog is amazing as usual. Nice weekend.

Mermaiden - Indeed they are! The unicorns of our age.St. Ainolopa - absolutely and another reader provided an even better link where you can see the antlers.
SilkandBone - I do hope to see one of the local white deer during one of my walks.Robin - This one looks a bit like a greyhound, doesn't it?
