Prints from the Codex Manesse

Last winter, traveling near Boston, I found these lovely medieval prints - already framed - in an antique store. Always one to succumb to impulse purchases of this sort, I simply had to have them although toting them home on the plane was a bit of a challenge. From the Codex Manesse or "large Heidelberg Lieder Manuscript", these are only three from a much larger collection of images, all depicting Kings, Lords, Ladies, monastic life, hunting and similar themes.

  1. Were they already framed when you bought them? If so, I bet they were a challenge to get home on a plane. But they're home now and anyway, what's a brief unpleasantness compared to the joy of having them in your world? They look gorgeous.
If I recall correctly, you have Netflix? If so, check out "The Color of Magic" -- Based on the Terry Pratchett book by the same name. Beautifully done and just hysterical. If you're not familiar with his books, I can recommend them. Brilliant satire and just plain funny.

    1. Yes, they were framed with glass. I packed them in bubble wrap and turned them sideways in a tote bag and made it work.

Actually, I canceled my Netflix (sad to see the vacation option removed), but I'll revisit at some point and will add this to my wish list. Thank you!!! Hitchhiker's Guide, right?

    2. Hitchhikers Guide was Douglas Adams. Terry Pratchett does the "Discworld" books -- a world that is round, flat, resting on the backs of four elephants which are standing on a giant turtle. I think the witches are my favorite characters, particularly Granny Weatherwax. The Color of Magic concerns the adventures of a wizard named Rincewind and has, among others, Jeremy Irons in a bit part, Sean Aston as one of the lead characters, Tim Curry, Christopher Lee as the voice of Death, and Pratchett himself in a cameo role. The CGI FX are very well done including "the luggage" and flying dragons! Unfortunately, Pratchett has early onset Alzheimer's, and that's truly a terrible waste of any mind.
