Illuminated world

For the past 3 weeks, I've been in a sort of limbo with a cat health crisis. My adorable Frick had a little bump on his chin and had surgery on Monday. The biopsy came back yesterday and to my total relief, he got a clean bill of health - a harmless nodule.

So, I feel energized and more focused...
have been doing research for a tattoo that I want to get sometime within the next year. This will be my first, so I want a design that is just right for me.  My initial thoughts are something medieval in nature, an illumination of sorts. Love the line drawings in this book, so like one of my favorite illustrator's, Evelyn Paul (whom I've posted about in the past).
Smith of Wootton Major & Famer Giles of Ham. J.R.R. Tolkien, published by Ballantine Books.

  2. These are gorgeous illustrations and what a beautiful cover on the Tolkien. A tattoo based on some of these would be lovely.

  5. Oh, I KNOW how hard a cat health crisis is! I'm sooo glad to hear that your kitty is OK. I am coming up on the birthday and deathday of my beloved, Sophia cat, who died at the end of February, a few days before her 13th birthday. It will be 2 years this year and Pasha and I still miss her a lot. I think its especially hard for Pasha when I am gone all day two days a week and he is locked inside alone.

Good luck with tattoo decision, I absolutely LOVE the E. Paul illustrations, wonderful!

  8. Having lost my beloved Shadow to cancer - I can empathize with you. So glad it was benign. I lost Shadow 7 years ago this October and her littermate/brother Jett two years ago this May. I still miss them. They were my first cats. They would be 14 years old now had they lived. You go on to have and love other kitties, but you never forget the ones that have gone on ahead.

Valerianna - I'm so sorry about your Sophie-cat. Poor Pasha must miss her too.

  12. These illustrations are wonderful. I have to buy Tolkien's Smith of Wooton Major & Farmer Giles of Ham... oddly enough, as big of a Tolkien geek as I am, I've never actually read either of those stories. But now that I've seen that cover I must have that edition!

  13. Christopher - it is a delightful read. The bottom illustrations are from Evelyn Paul, but the styles were so similar they were on my mind. She was an amazing artist with Pre-Raphaelite influence.
