October, wherefore art thou?

I begin this post with a head-scratching lament of what happened to October. Where did she go? Now, we are nearly done with November and I must guess the time-snatching Goblins are at work here. In North Carolina, we've had some truly glorious autumnal weather and I've wandered my local woods as much as I can. Week before last, I attended the Carolina Renaissance Festival beneath the most perfect blue sky. Some highlights from hawks to hounds.

Birds of prey show by Sky Kings.

Artemis.
Lenore, the raven.
Igor, the vulture. These birds were amazing and fly, untethered, above the audience!

Merlin, I'm sure of it!

Music as beautiful as she is - harpist, Sarah Mullen.

  3. Fabulous MM ! The man in the grey cloak with wooden staff is terrific. Don't be surprised if you see a version of him turn up in one of my drawings.

  4. Larry - I chased him down, shyly asked to take his photo and it was like making contact with a mystical being from another time and place. Even his voice was soothing...like water over mossy stone!

I've a full length photo if you want it for reference:)

  6. Oh my.... those birds are magical. And I love the shoes... I want a pair! My owl neighbor doesn't come and sit in her tree anymore, I do still see and hear owls, but I wonder if that particular one has passed to the summerland. When she did visit, she used to spend the whole day snoozing on a branch in the sunshine. Me and the cats, would walk around outside and she didn't mind, sometimes she'd keep me company while I stacked wood. I miss her, but I do hear her offspring often and sometimes get a good flyby.

  7. Valerianna - I can just picture you walking your magical wood with the cats beneath the watchful gaze of an owl. She left you most wonderful gifts:)

Just checked the list for the fair and I believe those shoes were made by this vendor!

  8. Oh, wow! I would love seeing those birds in person. Those are really nice photos of them, too.

I've never been to a Renaissance Festival, which is crazy considering every October there's one just a few minutes from my house.

  9. Kristin - oh you really should go!!! This one is about a 3-hour drive from me, but so worth it. There were so many fantastic costumed patrons as well as vendors who really add to the atmosphere.

The birds flew right over our heads - I felt wings in my hair!

  10. Oh what a great time! You know, we have a great Renaissance Festival here in Arizona and yet I haven't attended... which I couldn't tell you why, they always intrigue me and I've heard they are a fantastic time... perhaps its time I go to one the next time they are having it!!!!! Every time I see a Post on one I lament that I haven't experienced it yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel as though I would fit right in & be totally at Home.

Thanks for visiting my Post today, glad you enjoyed it and appreciated the Styling.

Blessings and a Happy Thanksgiving from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian

  15. I love the pictures of the birds~

Sadly, the only Renne Faire I've been to is the Georgia Renne Fest, and I absolutely loved it! The grounds on which the Faire takes place has permanent buildings set up, so it looks just like a real Medieval town. I didn't want to leave... :D

  20. Lynn - The birds were very well trained and the show most educational. Many of the costumed participants, like this knight, really play the part well.
