In The Forest
Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde
Out of the mid-wood's twilight
Into the meadow's dawn,
Ivory limbed and brown-eyed,
Flashes my Faun!
Into the meadow's dawn,
Ivory limbed and brown-eyed,
Flashes my Faun!
He skips through the copses singing,
And his shadow dances along,
And I know not which I should follow,
Shadow or song!
And his shadow dances along,
And I know not which I should follow,
Shadow or song!
O Hunter, snare me his shadow!
O Nightingale, catch me his strain!
Else moonstruck with music and madness
I track him in vain!
The perfect soundtrack for woodland wandering.
Wonderful walk with you - the wee wren and the wee fawn, lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks MM.
ReplyDeleteValerianna - thank you. Just starting to feel like fall here.
ReplyDeleteLarry - always a pleasure.
ReplyDeleteAh, look at that sweet bird! I love the little deer, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have 2 acres near Austin, and we've been told that 2 fawns were born beneath one of our trees there. The neighbor had to cut a hole in the barbed wire so that they could all get out. During my last visit there, one of them was on our land. Luckily, I had my camera in my hands and got a short video of it.

What a lovely walk.
ReplyDeleteKristin - Amazing! This little fawn is in my yard and his mom has visited a few times. Bet your video is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHermes - taking advantage of gorgeous soft and gentle weather, the colors just beginning.
ReplyDeleteOh that fawn! I would have about died it I came across it!
ReplyDeleteJackie - I pretty much did as it was in my yard!!!! with his mother, a beautiful doe who has visited several times. They nibble under the bird feeder eating sunflower seeds.
ReplyDeleteI'll post the video again sometime. It's short, but sweet. Deer are such beautiful creatures. We've seen a rabbit on our land once, too. I never did get any pictures or video of it though.
ReplyDeleteAs for Gerry... I don't know. Did you see him on 'Piers Morgan' the other night, describing his ideal woman? (I missed it and had to download it online). I think he was talking about me.
(cough-cough... I-(cough)-wish! cough...)
Kristin
Love the poem and the photo of the deer goes with it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteKristin - I'll have to look up the Gerard video:) Can't wait to see your deer
ReplyDeleteRowan - I thought so too and encountered a beautiful doe and fawn again last evening.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, what a nice treat. I love trees.
ReplyDeleteMelinda - our trees are finally ablaze with color.
