Medieval movies...

Despite my detours into nature photography recently, I still keep myself entertained with my stash of medieval/period movies from serious to silly. Always on the lookout for new ones. Looking forward to this one, Ironclad with James Purefoy as a Templar!!! Previews here.

  1. Hi there
I was just taking a wander through here and there, and came across your blog a few times, and would like to recommend to you 'Game of thrones' its a book and just recently a mini series, which may or may not be up your street so to speak.
I shall be looking out for 'Iron Clad' for sure.
    All the best CC

  2. Hi Cranky Crone - a name after my own heart.

I've not read the books but am waiting for this to come to DVD as I'm not a HBO subscriber. Thanks for the reminder - from what I've seen on other social networks, looks great. Have you seen Black Death also with Sean Bean?

I just checked and Netflix doesn't have a release date yet, but perhaps it will be available soonish. Thanks seconding the recommendation.

  6. Valerianna - will do. Camelot (Starz) comes to Netfix tomorrow for live streaming!!!

Hermes - from what I've found online, Ironclad has a UK release date of July 8th and will likely not show up in my theater at all (says limited release), so you're lucky! I really love James Purefoy.

  7. No I have not seen Blackdeath, but will now look out for it.
But I am enjoying 'Camelot' more so I think than 'Game of Thrones' I think thats because now I am reading the book though.
Thanks for looking in on my blog MM, I have just left a rant there about my beloved car, not my normal style, it just came out:-)

  8. CC - I hadn't seen Camelot as I don't get Starz, but as of tomorrow, I can watch it on Netflix. Weekend Arthurian-fest, here I come!

You have to post those streams of thought as they come...

  9. OMG, I have a serious THING for James Purefoy. Loved "George and the Dragon" which I believe is promoted as a kid's movie but I don't care as long as I get glimpses of JP.

  10. Jule - a woman after my own heart. I just watched my dvd of George and the Dragon a few weeks ago:). I don't even care they are eating licorice sticks and Patrick Swaze has an American accent. Love, love that movie. He is a bad guy in the new Camelot if you've not seen it. Loved him in A Knight's Tale as the Black Prince.

I called him "Purejoy" for years and was amused that someone else had that same idea in an interview:)

  11. Waiting for my copy of "Lady of Shalot" DVD. Hope it comes soon. Thanks for the clue on it.

  12. Oh, I had never noticed the licorice sticks. Too funny. Of course I laughed at Swayze's accent. I DID NOT know Purejoy was in Camelot. Now it is a must watch for me. I have the DVD of his short-lived American series "The Philanthropist" and also his DVD of "The Mayor of Casterbridge".

  14. Julie - he was also in Rome, but I've not watched that yet. Is that the Mayor of Castorbridge with Ciarin Hinds?

  15. Yes, "The Mayor of Casterbridge" is with Ciaran Hinds. I really like him too. It's a good movie. I started to watch "Rome" thru Netflix but it was too full of violence and sex for me. (And I'm not a prude by any means!) However, my BFF is crazy about "Rome".

  16. Julie - Much the same here. I tried watching Rome and gave up after one episode as there didn't seem to be one "good" person to rally around or champion. I like at least one hero - man, woman or beast.
