I've always adored Annie Lennox and this is so incredibly beautiful. Love the vintage postcard, dream-like quality, yet there is something oddly medieval about it too. And she must have a thing for riding crops, staffs, etc.! As if one could refuse to be merry?
It definitely reminds me of Loreena McKennitt, but it's a whole lot of fun and Lennox puts her unique stamp on it. My one year-old daughter loved the video - even the Wicker Man/Santa Claus, which was just a wee bit creepy!
Annie Lennox, Loreena McKennitt and John Waterhouse in common -- and I suspect much more. I had a brother/sister pair, littermates, but alas, sweet Shadow and dear Jett have both gone on ahead. I long to have time to get back into needle point, crochet and jewelry "assembling" again -- hopefully after next May I'll have more time. Since you know of Terri Windling, then you no doubt know of Charles de Lint. Are you familiar with Sharon Shinn's works, or Patricia McKillip's? If not, you have treats in store!
So glad everyone enjoyed this - I bought the cd as I had a listen on iTunes and loved so many of the others as well. It also struck a medieval-mummer-Loreena McKennitt chord with me and the Ivy King is a spectacular sight to behold.
WOL - check and check!!!!! I was fortunate to meet Mr. de Lint and his wife at an event last autumn - both delightful. Particularly loved McKillip's The Tower at Stony Wood.
Fabulous !
ReplyDeleteThanks MM - it kind of reminds me of some the recent Christmas music from Loreena Mckennitt.
Larry - right you are - Loreena's new cd is fabulous as well.
ReplyDeletePerfect song, I love music with atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
ReplyDeletethat's quite spectacular.

ReplyDeleteWonderful thanks, got to link this!!
ReplyDeleteEnchanting.... I love the pagan ritual at the end, right where I'll be this Solstice eve - dancing and singing around the fire.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's strong. Wild, really. I love the drummer and that moon in the sky! It has such a pagan edge! Thanks for posting this, I'll pass it on.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful and magical. Annie is the best. Thanks for sharing!
