    Angela - The details on each "sin" in this work is amazing, disturbing and a bit hilarious as seen with modern eyes.

  12. . . And the way I'm tucking into my morning oatmeal -- gluttony, definitely.

    Bosch's work is always so jam-cramed with detail, and some of his imagery makes me wonder if he had eaten some bread made with ergot infested wheat. He lived about 100 years after the great plague in Europe, which had a significant and long lasting impact on all aspects of society -- I think it is that which gives his images somewhat of a nightmare quality.

    You may very well be right - there that trance-dream-hallucination-effect in his work. Bet he was one that looked under his bed before he went to sleep!
